Playing The Long Game

1) I know I have talked about this before. If anything, this specific newsletter I’m writing right now is a reminder to myself. A reminder I have to keep repeating over and over again. Something I almost have to whisper aloud amidst the speed and chaos of social media and the internet.

Play the long game… play the long game…

I gotta stay strong and hold to my values as I craft my life, as I figure out the life I want to live, as I slowly develop the skills to make the things I want to make….

Call me an optimist, but I feel very strongly that the best is yet to come. I have no idea what the future holds, but might as well dream big if I’m going to spend any time wondering what will happen.

I just love the idea that I’ve spent the first 26 years of my life planting seeds and I have yet to see most of them come to fruition. And when I say “seeds,” I mean in an abstract sense — any investment I make in myself, in my relationships. Intentionally or unintentionally, life is always giving us so many chances to learn and grow. So long as you’re pouring yourself into whatever you do, you’re on the right path.

Putting myself through challenging life experiences is helping me build the muscles (again metaphorically) that I know will help me navigate future situations. You don’t see those muscles at first, it’s an invisible process, but I know there’ll come a day when I need them.

I say all of this because 2024 is another year that will have its many trends that will come and go. When they come, they’ll seem like the next BIG thing. But usually they fade, only to be replaced by the next trend. There are plenty of things to go and chase, but do you really want to chase them?

I am gonna stick to my guns and plant more seeds. I can feel in my heart I’m heading in the right direction. The journey I’m on takes time and requires patience. All good things in life require patience.

Counterintuitively, the fastest way to get to that life I want to live is not by rushing but by going slow, being strong and not getting lost in the shiny distractions.

So here’s to the long game.
