You Don’t Have to Be Interesting All the Time

Hello,

First, a very big announcement: my podcast is now live. FINALLY. Check it out here. So excited about this new format and the new room to experiment within it.

I hope that you’re down to go with me on this journey. I’ve recorded 12 episodes at the time of writing this and I’m constantly tinkering and looking for ways to improve it. I love seeing creative projects evolve and improve so I hope that comes through with each episode.

Anyway, I appreciate your patience and welcome all feedback. Also if you end up enjoying the first few episodes, please consider giving the pod a good review!

This year has been off to a very different start than years past. No crazy adventures. I’m writing a lot. Almost no alcohol. Going to bed earlier. Lots of running.

I’m sure that there are plenty of people out there that, if they could really see how I spend my time, would think to themselves “this is boring.” I promise you that my videos are just tiny, highly curated windows into my life.

But you know what, it’s ok if you were to call my life boring because I don’t care. I’m actually really enjoying myself.

The challenge with lifestyle design (creating your ideal life) is that you can get lost in what looks good on paper. A lot of things look good on paper. It’s extremely easy to fall into that trap — I’m way too good at convincing myself that I want something when I really don’t (or rather, the emotional cost of that thing. Living large requires a lot of maintenance. Living fast often requires you to not have a lot of time to reflect).

Never did this become more apparent to me as I began to make friends that are a lot more “successful” than me and that lead the kinds of lives that I thought I wanted. And then I started to see it up close and realize… wait I don’t want this at all. I would be miserable with your life.

What’s cool about life is that it keeps changing. Priorities change. I’m in a phase right now where my top priority is headspace and re-centering. Turns out it pays to be boring… because at least I feel like I’m giving myself exactly what I want.

  1. I’m not that big on watching shows because of the time commitment but I just watched Welcome to Wrexham and can’t recommend it enough.

Two celebrities buy a Welsh football club in an attempt to make it great. The idea is absolutely brilliant. This is the kind of thing I would love to do (if I could). Regardless the idea has already been taken, and they’re running with it. However, it’s in exactly the vein of creative project that I love: an absurd endeavor that makes room for a lot of silly jokes while also scratching at something deeper. I love the real-world impact, I love the community-building element & it’s a genius investment (if it works out).

  2. Speaking of podcasts, here’s an episode I particularly enjoyed listening to.

  3. In case you missed it, the final tour of my apartment (for those of you that have been following along with the series and would like to see the final result).

Thanks for reading,

Nathaniel Drew
